Professionalism

Throughout the process I pride myself on professionally.  I draw on a lifetime as an artist and years of experience painting.  In 2006 I received a Bachelor of Fine Art with a double concentration in Painting and Drawing.  With that formal arts training I have had countless hours dealing with design, proportion, scale, composition and detail.  In terms of murals specifically I have over 10 years of experience and many completed projects. I use professional grade paints picked for longevity.  I take time to tape, plastic or drop cloth off everything and take great care in preserving the existing workspace to ensure everything is kept neat and clean.

Process

The mural process is a back and forth between me the artist and you the client.  This is your artwork and I want you to be as involved as you want to be. The entire goal is to leave you loving your artwork so you are consulted multiple times throughout.  Here’s how it works:

  1. I receive general concept and general size

  2. General quote is given

  3. We brainstorm composition, details and specifics

  4. I create any sketches needed

  5. We finalize project details

  6. We finalize price

  7. Contract is signed

  8. Invoice is sent

  9. Down payment (one third of total) is processed

  10. Work begins

  11. Image is sketched on walls

  12. Painting is created

  13. Artwork is approved by client

  14. Clean up

  15. Final payment is processed

Questions

To get a full understanding of the scope and vision of your project I’ll be having you answer a few questions.  These are designed to get the specific details and any outside considerations you may have.

  1. What is the general size of the wall(s) in square feet?

  2. Will a scaffolding or a lift be needed?

  3. What level of detail is desired?

  4. Will the artwork need a UV or protective coat of any kind?

  5. Is there a rushed time frame or will night work be needed?

Pricing

Pricing a mural is not an exact science.  There are many factors involved such as size, height, location, level of detail, finish, time frame and more.  Here are some general guidelines:

  1. There is a minimum fee of $1000 for anything under 50 square feet.

  2. There is a minimum fee of $1250 for anything between 50 and 100 square feet.

  3. There is a minimum fee of $1500 for anything above 100 square feet.

Reviews

“Taylor is an incredible artist with a passion for what he does. All of his work is high quality. He is also a joy to work with, which can't be said of all artists!”

“We had the pleasure of working with Taylor on our mural in Anchorage, Alaska and the experience was unbelievable. The entire creative process ~from our initial discussion about concept design to the completion of the project ~ felt so supported, easy, and professionally executed. Taylor helped collaborate on the design and created an absolutely beautiful piece that essentially represents a manifestation of our dream to open a family business.

Taylor communicated with us every step of the way and was open to feedback during the creative process. His entire mission was to create a piece that we were extremely happy with - and he exceeded that directive by 10-fold. We couldn't be happier with the way the mural turned out.

He paints quickly with exquisite expression. A true example of passion and beauty being channeled through his artistic hand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. You will love whatever Taylor creates, let him do his thing ;) He is a gem and we are so lucky to have his art for everyone to enjoy.”

“Taylor painted a beautiful mural of a tree of our request on a bedroom wall.  1. He is an amazing artist - the tree looks better than I imagined 2. He is very client oriented. He reassured us the mural was ours and he was a conduit for our vision. He brought in his talent and vision to support us.  3. He has amazing energy as a human being and was a joy to have creating art in our home. Thanks Taylor!”

“Taylor has just an amazing way of working with his clients. He lights up any space he’s in with a positive attitude and a smile on his face, ready to do whatever is needed to make the project happen.

He does an unbelievable job with whatever he puts his heart and mind to.  His skills are very apparent and his range of ability amazes me. He is the perfect fit for any job you need and can accomplish whatever goals you have exactly how you want them to turn out.  It’s remarkable. Anyone who has a chance to work with Taylor is very lucky. I’d recommend him for any mural or commission work over many other artists I know.”

FAQ’s

Can I explain my pricing?

I would like my clients to know that my pricing is based on the level of quality, professionalism and beauty that they will be experiencing with the final product and the process of their custom mural.  A mural is a permanent work of art on an interior or exterior wall and it has the potential to transform a space. When murals are done right, they can make a beautiful positive impact on people’s experiences of a location or room.  The price that my clients pay is more than reflected in the lasting effect of their custom mural artwork.

What’s my typical process?

My typical process goes as follows:

  1. I receive general concept and general size

  2. General quote is given

  3. We brainstorm composition, details and specifics

  4. I create any sketches needed

  5. We finalize project details

  6. We finalize price

  7. Contract is signed

  8. Invoice is sent

  9. Down payment (one third of total) is processed

  10. Work begins

  11. Image is sketched on walls

  12. Painting is created

  13. Artwork is approved by client

  14. Clean up

  15. Final payment is processed

Do I have an art education or training?

Throughout the process I pride myself on professionally.  I draw on a lifetime as an artist and years of experience painting.  In 2006 I received a Bachelor of Fine Art with a double concentration in Painting and Drawing.  With that formal arts training I have had countless hours dealing with design, proportion, scale, composition and detail.  In terms of murals specifically I have over 10 years of experience and many completed projects. I use professional grade paints picked for longevity.  I take time to tape, plastic or drop cloth off everything and take great care in preserving the existing workspace to ensure everything is kept neat and clean.

How did I get started doing murals?

I've been painting and drawing my whole life.  As a high school student I began creating custom artwork for friends and family.  During my time as an art student in college I started getting paid to create custom paintings for people.  I did my first mural right after college for a local restaurant and loved it. That restaurant had a handful of locations so they hired me to decorate all of their interiors.  I had a great time and I’ve been hooked ever since.

What types of customers have I worked with?

I've worked with many types of clients from business owners looking to beautify their restaurants, offices and exteriors of their buildings to families looking to make a beautiful environment for their kids to grow up in.   Murals are a great way to create a powerful impact on people on conscious and subconscious levels, so they are perfect for clients looking to positively impact those around them.

Describe a recent project I’m fond of.

I recently finished a mural at a small school for children with developmental disabilities in San Diego, CA called Together We Grow.  The project has now had three different sections to it. I was first brought in to touch up the existing murals on the exterior of the building.  The structure was built to look and feel like a castle, complete with battlements and everything. There were images of kings, queens, knights, a wizard, a dragon and some unicorns that all had faded in the sunlight.  They also weren’t painted that well anatomically, so everyone looked a little weird. This was a perfect project for me with my background in figures and portraits. I brought everyone back to life and things ended up looking great.

Together We Grow then called me to update the artwork on the interior of the school.  There was an ocean room, and then the main entrance room and main hallway. I started with the ocean room creating a lifesize humpback whale, an orca, some seals, dolphins, a walrus and a pack of turtles.  It turned out beautifully.

The main entrance room and the hallway was made to look like the Tuscan countryside and a Medieval Italian castle.  In the entrance room the castle was off in the distance. As you walk down the hallway it’s painted again only closer.  Then you turn the corner and you “walk in” to the outer walls and courtyard. As you walk the hallway, you “walk through” the castle.  There’s a banquet room on the right, an outdoor courtyard with a fountain on the left, and then a wine barrel room at the end on the right.  There’s even a little cat and mouse duo that are interacting from opposite sides of a wall. You finish the hallway by “walking out” the end of the castle and out a back pathway.  It’s a comprehensive experience of an ancient Italian castle.

Everyone has loved the work so far from the owners of the building, the employees there, and most importantly, the kids.  It’s been heart-warming to see them interact with the artwork and be moved and excited by the colors. They really love the little mouse and the cat.  It’s been a real joy working on this one.

The first round of artwork took 7 work days.  The ocean room and the hallway section took about 13 days total.

What advice would I give to someone looking to hire a muralist?

I would advise anyone looking for a mural to ask about an artist’s process, how they feel about critiques of their work, what kind of paint they use and definitely ask to see their past work.  You just want to know that the artist can do the job and can carry it out well so that it lasts over time.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Customers should ask themselves what the intention is with their mural.  This intention affects everything from the imagery to the colors to the composition and finish.  Who is it for, and what’s the reason for the artwork? These are main points that need to be made clear to the artist so that everyone can be on the same page. You always want to have your visions aligned when going into a large scale project like a mural.
